Keevallik plenary at Mannheim seminar series

Keevallik recently presented at the Mannheim seminar series in Sprache – Leib – Interaktion, as a guest lecturer.

Vocal and syntactic aspects of embodied togetherness

Abstract:

In this talk I will depart from activities where people are involved in embodied tasks, such as practicing pilates, learning to dance, or shoveling dung, in order to explore structures of vocal behavior emerging in those contexts. I will target the systematicity of (as if) visceral body-based response cries in relation to cognitively anchored evaluative syntax and the deployment of prosody in joint accomplishment of physical tasks. I will show how syntagmatic patterns, including repetition, emerge through bodily coordination.
